To help prepare you for your college career and develop key skills for post-graduation (like critical thinking, information literacy, problem solving, and persuasion), Georgia Southern requires students to complete foundational Math and English courses through IMPACTS Core.
- IMPACTS – Mathematics and Quantitative Skills
- IMPACTS – Communicating in Writing
These requirements must be completed in your first 30 credit hours as an Eagle, to ensure you have the foundation necessary to Soar at Georgia Southern!
Learning Support Can Help You Soar
For the Math and ENGL 1101 requirements, Georgia Southern offers co-requisite Learning Support courses, intended to help students be successful in these foundational college courses. Any student can enroll in these if they choose to do so, but some students may be required to take Learning Support classes alongside their Math and/or ENGL 1101 courses.
There are some important things to keep in mind when it comes to Learning Support requirements.
- Grades: To successfully complete these requirements, you must earn a “C” or better in the Core course.
- Timeline: ALL Learning Support requirements must be completed within your first 30 credit hours at GS. If you have not satisfied Learning Support requirements by that time…
- You will get a registration hold until you satisfy the requirements.
- You will be able to register ONLY for Learning Support classes. This means you will not be full-time (which could impact financial aid), and your graduation may be delayed.
- Campus Resources: In addition to your Learning Support courses, we have other campus resources (both in-person and virtual) to help you be successful in your English and/or Math courses, like tutoring through our Academic Success Center and our Mathematics department, and our Writing Centers.
